The safety advocacy group W.A.T.C.H. (World Against Toys Causing Harm) has released their annual list of hazardous toys that may cause injury to children. W.A.T.C.H. has diligently researched the newest toy releases for 2014 to analyze the potential for injury to the child playing with it.

1. Zing Air Storm Fire Tek Bow

This toy causes potential for injury as it should not be used in darkness, although the arrows light up. The package also warns not to pull bow back more than half strength when attempting to shoot the arrow.

2. Radio Flyer Ziggle

This toy encourages the riders to try new tricks, twist, spin, swerve and race around the box. The box warns of injury if ridden without a helmet, yet the packaging pictures a small boy riding without a helmet.

This toy has no age recommendation or safety warning on the packaging other than “play safe.” Serious injury could be occur when using a sharpened pencil to launch objects.

4. Alphabet Zoo Rock & Stack Pull Toy

Despite the industry standard of a maximum 12 inch length of any pull cords, this toy has a 20 inch pull cord. Injury by strangulation could occur and is potentially fatal.

This toys safety precaution is clear:  “This toy may be mistaken for a real weapon…” The packaging also states it is an exact replica of the actual version of this weapon.

W.A.T.C.H. warns about this toy due to the recommended age being 12 months+ and contains a small wooden stick that could obstruct airways in children if swallowed.

Recommended age on this product is 8+ and supplies the “rocketeer” with safety yellow caution tape, but not with the “required safety goggles.”

8. JC Toys Lil’ Cutesies Best Friends

Lil’ Cutesies doll pictured here with a fabric bow poses a potential for injury by choking. The bow can become detached from the doll easily and ingested.

This 2 foot, hard plastic hammer comes with no warnings or cautions of injury when being used by children as young as 3.

10. Toys R Us Plush Colored Hedgehog

This cute and cuddly hedgehog marketed for newborns is covered with long, stringy fur that is not firmly rooted. The fur can become detached, posing a danger for injury by choking if ingested.
